A Day in Mauritius with Alicia Rountree

30- 6:00 AM – I start my day with journaling and meditation. I like to wake up with the sunrise, I sleep with open curtains to feel energized first thing in the morning.

30 – 7:00 AM – I go paddle boarding and for a quick morning dip to wake up. After my shower I apply a clean SPF, I do not wear make up and let my hair dry naturally.

00 AM – Family time is a priority to me, we have breakfast together and I make everyone a Matcha latte. Breakfast usually consists of fresh coconut, papayas or guavas- depending what is in season. For more intense days I will have a more substantial meal, my mom makes an amazing flour-free nuts and seeds bread I love.

00 – 13:00AM – I take the car and drive to the factory, which is located in the northern part of the island. Driving in Mauritius always is time consuming and I will listen to interesting podcasts on the way. Then I meet the production team for fittings and to discuss upcoming sample and production schedules.

00 PM – Before going back to the office I will stop for local street food, there are traditional stalls often located on various street sides. My favorite is Dholl Puri, a savory pancake made from dhal filled with a light vegetarian curry.

30- 16:00 PM– In the afternoon I focus on my upcoming collections for Alicia Swim. Tasks will consist of taking calls, writing emails and brainstorming.

00 – 18:00 PM – I find it relaxing to paint outside, all the prints of my collection are hand-painted. Painting in Mauritius is extremely captivating, from the picturesque landscapes to the vibrant sea life –  inspiration is endless.

00 PM – I will go for another swim followed by a hot shower then I prepare dinner with my family. We cook dishes with our garden’s local produce, most of the foods that we eat are organically homegrown.

00 – 20:30 PM –  Dinner is served outdoors, depending on the weather.

30 – 22:00 PM – After dinner we will watch a Netflix series or play board games. Prioritizing family time is crucial to me, as I travel frequently.

00 PM-  It’s time to start getting ready for bed, my phone is switched off and placed in another room. Once a week I like to apply a small amount of Virgin coconut oil to my hair, which I use as an overnight mask. Before falling asleep, I like to read a few pages of an inspiring book, right now I am reading “Becoming Supernatural” by Dr. Joe Dispenza.
